WE REJOICE WITH YOU !
A wedding is a sacred and life-long covenant between a man and a woman, voluntarily and celebratively offered in the presence of God. It is a big day for you and it is a moment with eternity in mind. We want to make it what you want it to be in the best Christian style.
Your Worship & Church Family
Wedding worship is a time of special thanks and praise, asking God’s blessings upon your life together. In worship you join with friends, relatives, neighbors and the saint of the ages in expressing this magnificent joy. Our weddings are all planned as God-directed, Christ-centered witnesses to our faith and the creative act of love He gives as a gift to all people.
Whether you have belonged for years, or whether you heard about us and then came to share your wedding, we feel a closeness to you because of our church family. We encourage your follow-up conversations with our Pastor, you involvement in couples activities and your participation with our total church family.
Your Pastor
The Pastor meets with each couple for three sessions for pre-marital counseling and to get acquainted with the couples, discuss aspects of a Christian marriage and design the wedding worship service itself. It is a time of closeness for all participants which is expressed in the wedding worship.
As host in our church home, the Pastor of First Lutheran will officiate at all weddings. When another clergyman is to assist, this should be made known to the pastor, who will extend the invitation to the clergyman.
General Planning & Suggestions
Immediately upon planning your wedding, contact our church secretary. She will confirm you date and time on our Master Calendar. All dates must be cleared by the pastor before planning may continue. Dates and times are on a first-come, first-serve basis. She will comprise all pertinent information for our office records, answer any questions that you may have, and help schedule your appointments with the pastor.
The Wedding License must be brought to the church office at least one week prior to the rehearsal date, along with all the fees. Do not bring the license and fees to the rehearsal.
Music
In regard to music, our Organist and Pianist are talented professionals familiar with the standards of music appropriate for our church home. Normally, the bride will consult with the organist/pianist regarding the processional/recessional numbers, and soloist (s). The soloist (s) may be of your own choice. They should be in touch with our organist/pianist in ample time for rehearsals. All music must be approved by our Pastor.
Rehearsal
A rehearsal time is to be set with the Pastor at your first Pastoral Meeting. The complete wedding party and parents should be involved, arrive on time, and with tasteful dress and attire appropriate to the sanctuary.
Wedding Coordinator
Our wedding coordinator is aware and knowledgeable about our customs and practices. Questions regarding the wedding should be referred to her. She will coordinate the rehearsal and can answer all questions regarding decorating.
Bridal Dressing Area
A carpeted, well-mirrored room is provided for the bride and her bridesmaids to use for marriage preparations. Please no food or beverages (except for water) are allowed in the Bride’s Room.
Decorations
Our sanctuary is very complete in architectural lines and appointment. The old world style and charm is an ideal setting for such a wonderful occasion. A minimum of decoration is desired.
Candles: Altar and pew candles. Pew candles are available for use during your wedding. We have a 7-branch candelabra available for use at the foot of the Chancel steps. The decision for the usage of this 7-branch candelabra should be made in consultation with the Wedding Coordinator.
Pew Bows: First Lutheran has a variety of materials that are available for your use if desired. There are 28 pews in the churches nave.
Parchments: Seasonal chancel parchments of the church year will be used. These are not changed for weddings.
Flowers: For Saturday weddings, altar flowers already furnished for Sunday worship may be used. Please inform the wedding coordinator if you would like to request certain colors to accent your wedding. She will contact the church secretary to make the proper arrangements. Floral pieces must always leave the altar unobstructed and in full view of the congregation.
Seating Capacity
There are 28 pews in the church nave, 14 on each side, and 10 pews in the balcony. It is possible to seat 250 guests comfortably.
Tape Recording
Cassette recordings, using the microphone system of the church, are available.
